This procedure is suitable for both children and adults. In fact, otoplasty is one of the few cosmetic surgeries often performed during childhood. By around age 6 or 7, a child’s ears have typically reached their adult size, making this an appropriate time to consider surgery—especially if prominent ears are affecting self-esteem or leading to teasing. Early correction can help prevent emotional distress and support healthy confidence during key developmental years.

Otoplasty is typically performed as an outpatient procedure. The surgery usually involves small incisions hidden behind the ears to reshape, reposition, or pin the ears closer to the head. After surgery, a protective dressing or wrap is worn for several days to support healing. Swelling and bruising are expected in the first week or two, but most patients experience minimal discomfort and recover quickly.

Results are visible almost immediately, with continued improvement as swelling resolves over the following weeks. The outcome is permanent and can create a more balanced facial appearance and a significant boost in self-confidence.
